Alumni status is a benefit, not a credential
Executive alumni status is one of the things people value most about IIM programmes, yet it is also one of the least clearly explained. It is attached to a programme, it comes with conditions, and it is not the same as a degree. Read the wording on each programme page.
What the programme pages actually say
- IIM Mumbai — Advanced Project Management and Analytics: executive alumni status is granted on successful completion, subject to meeting a minimum of 75% attendance. The Certificate of Completion also requires 60% in each evaluation component and payment of all fees
- IIM Mumbai — Executive MBA (MBA–BPGP): the page lists IIM Mumbai alumni status among its programme highlights, along with online access to IIM Mumbai's library. It does not detail the benefits, so ask
Credential, degree and alumni status are three different things

Questions to ask before you enrol
- What exactly does alumni status include — directory, events, library access, networking?
- Are there conditions such as minimum attendance, and what happens if I miss them?
- Is the status the same for certificate and degree-level programmes?
- Is it lifetime, or reviewed periodically?
- Who administers it — the institute or the education partner?
